Mechanic Arrested For Stealing Mufflus in Kericho Town.
By John Ambuli
In an incident at The Kenya Co-operative Creameries (KCC) Depot Round about in Kericho town, a Mechanic was caught and arrested and taken to the Kericho Town police station after the owner of a Subaru saloon car that he had been working on discovered that the mechanic had gone beyond their agreement of the job and touched different parts of the car that weren’t on the list of the jobs to be done on the car.
We got our story from an eye witness who wasn’t a mechanic and who didn’t have any experience in mechanics and so, he depended totally on what he heard from the people who were present at the scene of the incident. According to our source, the mechanics had been assigned to work on the wheels of the car, but when the owner came back, that is after the works were over, he discovered that the mechanics had plucked out the mufflus of his new Subaru saloon car and disappeared with it. It wasn’t present at the scene of the incident and that was the cause of the conflict between the two sides. It then ended with the owner of the car calling in police officers who then cuffed a mechanic and went away with him.
Eye witnesses wondered how the owner of the car had discovered about the act which then ,after lacking proper explanations and clarifications, it was labeled as theft. The muffles is part of the exhaust systems of automobile ,it lies at the end of the exhaust pipes .Its uses to the car or the technicalities in general can only be explained by a well trained and well informed mechanic.
The mufflus, that is after it has grown old, can be used for medical purposes ,whereby it is extracted and used in the manufacture of medicine .It is used to make medicine that is very effective in treating diarrhea.
There have been people who have been going around in the Jua Kali visiting the garages gathering it and they have been paying good money for it.
According to one source, the mufflus can fetch up to fifty thousand Kenyan shillings a piece.
The matter was left in the hands of the police for further legal action.
